Clown Camp Mannar happened on August 12, 2023, at Bridging Lanka, bringing together kids aged 6 to 16, as well as teachers and artists aged 18 to 23 years old mainly from the Tamil-speaking community. Jeremy Ahamed Liyanage, the Executive Director at Bridging Lanka, had a cool way to measure if the program worked – he checked how many kids came back for more on the second day. Surprisingly, Clown Camp Mannar had just as many kids on day two!
One special thing was a girl saying that it was the only day she didn’t feel sad. The kids really enjoyed the new stuff and are going to remember this day. Most of them loved the Flying Cloth game, showing that fun and interactive activities are a big hit.
At first, some kids were shy, but by the end of the day, everyone joined in the activities. Older kids helped the younger ones, and as camp facilitators, we noticed a big positive shift in just two days. Our way of learning through clowning really made a difference, bringing joy and teamwork. It shows that learning can be fun and change how we feel in a short time!
In short, Clown Camp Mannar did well, keeping kids engaged and even making one kid’s day better. It shows that programs like these can bring joy to communities and leave a positive impact on participants.
